Succotash - National Harbor & Washington DC

Happy Hour at Succotash is a great experience. The customer service and drink quality are always superb at either location. However, the food options and flavors vary based on location during happy hour. I will be reviewing both locations and telling you the best options available at each restaurant. Also as always, you will find both happy hour menus and times listed below.

Washington D.C

The Succotash Washington, DC location is a Michelin Guide restaurant 2019 which is a pretty big deal in the restaurant community. The decor of the restaurant is beautiful and the bar is fairly regular for a D.C upscale restaurant. Happy Hour is every day from 3-8 which is amazing because a Saturday happy hour is exactly what the doctor ordered! My favorite options for this location during happy hour are the Milk Punch which is a bourbon-based drink that is to die for delicious (I would argue the best bourbon drink I've had) and the Chicken N Biscuit sliders! The Chicken N Biscuit sliders taste like home, comfort, savory, good ole fashion southern cuisine with a yummyness that makes you want to "slap yo momma". As a person who is not a fan of gravy, these sliders were a pleasant surprise! The items I stray from are the eggs which are not overpriced for DC but not unique enough to order and the wings which are roasted so can be perceived as "uncooked". Also, the two times I have tried the wings they brought me, giant, steroid injected wings which paired with being roasted just wasn't edible for me. I can say however that their white bbq sauce served on the wings is good and the wings do seem to have a nice flavor. Below are other options available for happy hour.

National Harbor

Succotash at the National Harbor is much smaller than the Washington, DC location. However, I really like the bar and happy hour menu options better. The decor of the Harbor Succotash is dark and masculine and the star of the show is the huge square bar and surrounding bar tables. Happy hour is Monday through Friday from 3 to 7pm. They lose a few points for this vs their sister location because happy hour is an hour shorter and not on the weekends however they make up for this shortcoming by having better prices and options. Items you should try on this menu are the oysters, wings, and shrimp. I prefer the wings at this location rather than D.C because they are smaller and seem to always be more well done and delicious. I am not sure why this is as it seems the recipe is the same. The drink I like is Hey Peaches. I previously like the Milk Punch at this location as well, which was made differently than it is made in D.C, but it has since been removed from the menu. Review the menu options below and read my final thoughts!

Final Thoughts

Succotash is a great happy hour spot in both locations however if you like seafood and want to save a few dollars the National Harbor location is your best bet! If you have a craving for chicken and biscuits and want an everyday happy hour Succotash D.C has got you covered there. Personally, I still like the National Harbor location because let's face it happy hour is about saving money and I love seafood. What are your thoughts? Have you been to either happy hour?
